The main suspect in the Olorato Mongale murder case has reportedly been killed in a shootout with the police in KwaZulu-Natal on Friday, 30 May 2025.
Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed that the SAPS found the suspect hiding in a residential complex in Amanzimtoti.
“When police announced their arrival, he shot at police, police returned fire and he was fatally wounded. Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi is on scene,” Athlenda wrote in a statement posted on X.
The suspect is unnamed at this time, but the police had announced on Thursday, 29 May, that they were searching for three suspects (Fezile Ngubane, Philangenkosi Sibongokuhle Makhaya, and Bongani Mthimkhulu) who are believed to be directly involved in the murder of Mongale.
The police also confirmed the arrest of the mother of one of the suspects after she allegedly tipped off the son that the police were looking for him.
According to the SAPS, the father of the suspect is the owner of the white VW Polo, which was recovered with traces of blood at a panel beater workshop in Phoenix, Durban on Wednesday, 28 May 2025.
The VW Polo is believed to have been used by the perpetrators involved in the murder of Olorato Mongale.
Mongale was found dead in Lombardy West after going on a date with a man who goes by the pseudonym “John” on Sunday, 25 May 2025.
The man picked Mongale up from her residential complex in Athol, Johannesburg in a white VW Polo.
He drove to Alexandra township, Kew and Lombardy West before allegedly murdering Mongale and dumping her body.
