A listener shared that her mother-in-law questioned the cleanliness of her house while her husband looked on. What upset her most was that he just stood by and didn’t defend her.
Her in-laws are planning to visit again in June, and she feels uncomfortable with them staying over. Reaching out to The Best T in the City with Tbose, she wonders if there are any blind spots she might be overlooking.
“For Easter, my husband decided his mother should stay with us instead of us going back home. After a few days, during dinner, she started commenting that our house wasn’t clean and that I needed to do better. I was hurt-but what hurt more was that my husband laughed and didn’t defend me.
“That evening I asked him why he hadn’t spoken up for me. He admitted he’d been feeling the same way about the house but didn’t know how to tell me. We’ve been married three years. Uncle T, I was upset, but more than anything, I felt that my husband should have had my back.
“My in-laws are coming again in June for my husband’s cousin’s unveiling. Would I be wrong to ask him to book them into a guesthouse? I hate how my mother-in-law made me uncomfortable in my own house, and I don’t want her back-especially since she’ll be coming with my sisters-in-law. What could be my blind spot?”
