Postbank has reassured social grant beneficiaries that their South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) gold cards will remain valid and usable beyond the previously stated date of 31 May 2025.
In a statement released on Thursday, Postbank confirmed that beneficiaries will continue to receive their SASSA grants through their gold cards until further notice. This announcement provides relief to those beneficiaries who have not yet transitioned to the new Postbank black cards.
Postbank emphasised that SASSA gold cards will continue to function across all payment channels, including ATMs and point-of-sale (POS) machines. Beneficiaries can still withdraw cash at Postbank’s partner retail stores and use their gold cards for purchases, maintaining the same functionality they currently have.
Postbank CEO, Nikki Mbengashe, stated,
“In keeping with our commitment that we made that Postbank will ensure that no beneficiary will be left with no access to their grants and that there will be no disruptions in payments of grants, Gold Cards will continue to work until every beneficiary is transitioned to the new black card.”
Mbengashe expressed confidence that this announcement will alleviate concerns among beneficiaries who have not yet obtained their black cards. She also cautioned beneficiaries to disregard any communication urging them to switch banks, emphasising that such a move is unnecessary.
Point of View with Phemelo Motene spoke to Postbank’s Chief Commercial Officer, Thami Cele on the latest developments.
