Eskom announced the immediate suspension of load shedding at midnight on Thursday. The decision comes after the power utility managed to recover a significant 2,015 megawatts of generation capacity.
Adding to the positive outlook, Eskom cited an anticipated decrease in electricity demand and the current healthy state of its emergency reserves as contributing factors to the suspension.
Daphne Mokwena, spokesperson for the state-owned power provider, emphasised that while the immediate threat of outages has subsided, crucial maintenance work will continue.
“Planned maintenance remains a priority to ensure the system’s preparedness for the expected surge in demand during the upcoming winter months,” Mokwena stated.
She further explained that this ongoing work is essential for meeting regulatory standards and ensuring environmental compliance.
. “Our team is working diligently to restore approximately 6,000MW of power to the grid by next Tuesday,” Mokwena affirmed.
