Celebrated South African media personality Anele Mdoda and her partner, Prince Bonelela Ngubengcuka ka Mgudlwa, have officially tied the knot.
The Mdoda and Mgudlwa families confirmed the news, sharing that the couple was formally united in a traditional ceremony of “Ukwamkelwa kwabakwenyana” – a cultural celebration welcoming the groom into the bride’s family.
The ceremony took place over the weekend, surrounded by close friends and family, in a setting described as both elegant and deeply rooted in tradition.
This marks the conclusion of lobola negotiations between the two families, as they now look forward to the next phases: both traditional and civil ceremonies.
In a joint statement, the families expressed their happiness, saying:
“We wish these two incredible people an eternal union, filled with love and fulfilment. We look forward to the next phase of their ceremonies, as this was just the initial step. In African culture we know, a groom never really concludes lobola but we are pleased that the Mgudlwa Royal House of the Abathembu Kingdom have honoured ooHlathi in bringing these two together, in this dignified traditional process.”
Family spokesperson Sizwe Dhlomo noted how the two families – ooHlathi, ooMfene, ooLisa, and ooJambase – share strong cultural values and mutual respect.
The families also requested privacy during this time, stating that the couple will not be engaging in any media interviews or press engagements regarding the marriage.
The announcement was officially issued by Azania Public on behalf of the Mdoda and Mgudlwa families.
