A workplace dispute took an extraordinary turn when an employee mistakenly accused a colleague of fathering her child, culminating in a court-ordered paternity test that proved the accusation false.
The subsequent dismissal of the employee by their employer has been deemed unfair by both the National Bargaining Council and the Johannesburg Labour Court, highlighting the complexities of workplace conduct and disciplinary action.
The unusual case unfolded when an employee, whose identity remains confidential, wrongly identified a coworker as the father of her child.
This accusation led the employee to pursue legal action, successfully obtaining a court order mandating a paternity test for the accused colleague.
