A horrific incident on the R21 northbound before the OR Tambo International Airport off ramp in Gauteng on Tuesday morning claimed the lives of sixteen people. The injured were taken to hospitals in the area.
Nine men and three women were killed when a bus on the R21 northbound in Johannesburg collided near the R24 split, closing a crucial intersection leading to OR Tambo International Airport.
According to William Ntladi, a spokesperson for Ekurhuleni disaster and emergency management, the bus “jack-knifed and rolled several times” on Tuesday.
“A bus has jackknifed, rolled several times, and unfortunately in that accident we have accounted 12 fatalities, all of them adults,” said Ntladi.
