American R&B singer Angie Stone reportedly died in a car accident on the morning of Saturday, 1 March 2025.
She was 63 years old.
According to reports, Stone performed in Mobile, Alabama on Friday and was on her way to Atlanta, Georgia with nine people when the accident happened.
The sprinter van the group was travelling in overturned in Montgomery, Alabama and Stone was the only person killed in the crash.
Speaking to CNN, her publicist, Yvonne Forbes said, “Angie Stone’s voice and spirit will live on forever in the hearts of those she touched.
“Details regarding memorial services will be announced by the family in due course.”
Angie Stone was born in Columbia, South Carolina and started her career in the late 1970s as a member of the female hip-hop trio The Sequence.
She released her debut solo album Black Diamond in 1999 with the hit track “No More Rain (In This Cloud)”.
Her biggest hit was “Wish I Didn’t Miss You” from her 2001 album Mahogany Soul.
Stone was nominated for three Grammys in her career.
She also appeared on popular TV show Girlfriends for which she sang the theme song and appeared in Moesha starring Brandy Norwood.
Her movies credits include The Fighting Temptations and Ride Along.
She is survived by her son, Michael D’Angelo Archer II aka Swayvo Twain whose father is neo-soul singer D’Angelo.
