Former Johannesburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda and his co-accused Mduduzi Zondo no longer face fraud charges from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
During their brief appearance in the Protea Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning, the State announced that it was temporarily dropping the charges against the two.
Between 2011 and 2012, they allegedly employed a funeral plan to defraud the people of Soweto.
In November, the city’s new mayor, Dada Morero, dismissed the previous community development MMC. Gwamanda was replaced by PA councillor Tebogo Nkonkou.
Gwamanda took the time to share his reaction to the verdict and shared how the prosecution was merely to discredit him as a future political leader.
If this widely publicised prosecution through agents outside of the Courtroom sought to do so to record what they believed was my downfall (& all those I represent), then let this victory be for all whom o represent.
