Multi-award-winning singer and songwriter Simphiwe Dana is celebrating 20 years since the release of her debut album Zandisile.
Dana has also revealed that she will be performing live to commemorate a career milestone.
When the album was made available in 2005, it became well-known thanks to its catchy songs, such as Ndiredi, Zandisile as well as Ingoma . The album marked a significant moment in South African music.
The album wasn’t just a collection of songs; it was a powerful statement of artistic expression, deeply rooted in Xhosa musical traditions while seamlessly blending elements of jazz, soul, and contemporary sounds.
She also won the Best Newcomer prize at the South African Music Awards (SAMA).

Dana announced on her Instagram page that she would be hosting a music performance with the theme “Reflections” to honor the album that helped to shape her career.
“t’s been 20 years since my debut album Zandisile and we have to celebrate this milestone together. I will be exploring the many amazing songs from my repertoire in my upcoming celebration of 20 Years in song at the Baxter Theatre Concert Hall on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 June 2025. This show will be a reflection of the many sound textures of my music career.” wrote Dana
She stated in her statement that she would be experimenting with some of her songs for the event. The event will take place in Cape Town’s Baxter Theatre Centre.
