The Real Housewives of Durban star Jojo Robinson recently revealed that she underwent a facelift, dissolved all the fillers in her face, and opted for a deep plane face and neck lift.
Robinson’s procedures were performed by Dr Paul McGarr, the same surgeon who previously handled her tummy tuck and arm surgery.
“Honestly, I’ve been using fillers for so many years that I felt I needed a more permanent solution,” the television personality shared.
“I’m well aware that I didn’t need it. Plastic surgery isn’t usually about necessity—it’s something you choose to do because you want it,” she explained, emphasising that the decision was personal.
Jojo highlighted that facelifts are often misunderstood and stereotyped as something reserved for older women.
“There’s a stigma around facelifts, as though they’re only for much older women, but that’s just not the case anymore. Everyone ages differently, and for me, being in the public eye makes it harder. I want to look my best now, not in 10 years’ time.”
Jojo Robinson opted to undergo her surgery with twilight anaesthesia, a method where the patient remains awake but relaxed, with numbness in the surgical area achieved through local anaesthesia and sedatives administered via IV. Unlike general anaesthesia, twilight anaesthesia allows the patient to avoid being fully unconscious during the procedure.
“The reason I chose this method was because it’s a seven-hour procedure, and I was concerned about being under general anaesthesia for that long—it can be taxing on the body,” Jojo explained. “Personally, I struggle with recovery after general anaesthesia. Another bonus is that this option is significantly more affordable, saving about R60,000 to R70,000 compared to full anaesthesia.”
Despite her initial concerns about being awake during the procedure, Jojo shared that it exceeded her expectations.
“I was worried about being awake, but I don’t remember or feel anything from the surgery. I also woke up feeling much better than I usually do after general anaesthesia. I’m so glad I chose this route,” she said.
