Popular South African soap opera Muvhango has announced that veteran actor Macks Papo, best known for his role as Marothi Maphuthuma on Skeem Saam, has joined the SABC2 drama series.
Taking to their social media platforms, Muvhango revealed that Papo will portray Madimetja, the biological father of Sakhile. His debut episode airs this evening, 12 December 2024.
Macks Papo, also referred to as Max Papo, is a celebrated South African actor, playwright, and poet with a career spanning nearly four decades. He has earned acclaim for his versatile performances, notably as Marothi in Skeem Saam and Boipelo in The Throne on Mzansi Magic.
Throughout his illustrious career, Papo has taken on diverse roles, such as Tsheko Mashabela in Egoli (2000–2007) and Ivan Tshinawa, a wealthy businessman, in Rhythm City. Joining Muvhango, he acknowledged the challenging yet rewarding nature of the role, which often involves shooting multiple scenes daily.
Papo’s passion for the arts began in his school years, where he developed an affinity for drama, poetry, and music. He later refined his craft at Wits Drama School, graduating with a BA in Dramatic Arts in 1992. Beyond acting, Papo is also a motivational speaker and spiritual healer, incorporating ancestral spirituality into his personal and professional life.
