Steve Harvey recently shared advice on how to make a marriage last during an appearance on The Talk. When asked by the hosts, he simply said, “Keep your mouth shut.”
The Siz The World team reflected on his advice and posed the question to their listeners: What must you do to maintain peace in a household? And who bears the responsibility for ensuring peace—the wife or the husband? Additionally, why does maintaining peace sometimes require you to hold back, as Steve Harvey suggests?
Sol Phenduka shared his own experience, saying, “When I was younger, I used to think, ‘If I’m right, I’m right.’ But I’ve realised my relationships are more peaceful when I hold back. I tend to want the last word, but I’ve learned not to antagonise my partner unnecessarily. I choose happiness every time.”
Mfundo Mabalane agreed, adding, “That’s exactly how you keep a household peaceful.”
Mpho Maboi, however, offered a different perspective. “I like strong men—someone who will challenge my opinion. I don’t want a man who agrees with everything I say. There’s nothing wrong with having different opinions; it’s about how we find common ground,” she explained.
