Former EFF member Floyd Shuvambu has been appointed Secretary General of the MK party.
The decision to appoint Floyd Shivambu as Secretary General follows the resignation of Commander Dr. Sifiso Maseko from the role on Tuesday, 29 October 2024. Dr. Maseko requested to be relieved of his responsibilities as Secretary General of the organisation. He had been suspended from his position at the Gauteng Department of Health, pending an internal disciplinary process which has now been concluded.
Although released from his role as Secretary General of uMkhonto weSizwe, Commander Maseko will continue to serve as a member of the National High Command, the MKP’s highest decision-making body.
In a statement from the MK Party, leader Jacob Zuma announced that, after consultation with MK Party National Officials, Commander Nyiko Floyd Shivambu has been appointed Secretary General of uMkhonto weSizwe, effective immediately. Commander Shivambu will assume all duties and responsibilities of the Secretary General as outlined in the MKP Constitution.
In accordance with the organisation’s Constitution, the President and National Officials will soon announce necessary changes related to the vacant position of National Organiser.
Zuma praised Commander Dr. Maseko for his significant contributions to the organisation and expressed full confidence in Secretary General Nyiko Floyd Shivambu and the broader leadership of uMkhonto weSizwe.
