Crime is a prevalent issue in South Africa, and many of us have unfortunately experienced theft, whether it’s a minor incident like pickpocketing or a more serious crime like burglary. In the aftermath of such incidents, we’re often told to be grateful that only material possessions were lost.
However, some items hold significant sentimental value, and their loss can be deeply upsetting. The Drive 959 team asked listeners to share stories about items stolen from them that held special meaning.
Glen Lewis recounted an incident involving a high-end watch he received as a gift. “The person who gifted it to me must have spent around R70 000 on it,” he said. After a week-long search, Glen realized he had left the watch under his car seat. Unfortunately, it had been stolen by the car wash attendants, despite his generous treatment of them.
Glen shared his disappointment, highlighting the sentimental value of the watch and the betrayal he felt.
Hear Kgomotso and Skhumba as well as the Kaya listeners share their experiences.
