Manchester City and Spanish midfielder Rodrigo has been crowned the best player on the planet, winning the prestigious Ballon d’Or.
The 28-year-old has become the first Manchester City player to claim the coveted honour. He played a pivotal role in City’s record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title last season.
Rodrigo’s impressive performances for both club and country, including Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph, were recognized at the ceremony held at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris on Monday evening.
Upon receiving the award, Rodrigo expressed his gratitude: “Winning the Ballon d’Or is a dream come true and a genuine honour for me. I’ve dedicated my life to football, and to be rewarded with the most revered individual prize is incredibly special for me and my family.”
He continued, “Individual prizes are often the result of strong team performances, and I’m eternally grateful to everyone at Manchester City. My teammates are the best, and the support I receive from the club allows me to focus on my football and perform at my best. I’m fortunate to be a Manchester City player.”
Rodrigo also thanked his family for their unwavering support. “I am humbled, honoured, and very proud tonight. My focus now is on returning to full fitness and pulling on a City shirt again,” he added.
In September, Rodrigo underwent surgery and was ruled out for the remainder of the season.
