Gisèle Pelicot is testifying against her husband who allegedly drugged and orchestrated her rape by an estimated 50 men in a public trial.
The 72-year-old French woman was shocked to learn that the man she spent 50 years of her life with was capable of having no regard or respect for her, offering her up to these men while she was unconscious over the past 10 years.
Gisèle who had no memory of the rapes, suffered blackouts and found out about her husband’s actions after police found him taking pictures up women’s skirts and dresses in a supermarket.
It was then that police searched his cellphone, personal computer and hard drives.
What police discovered in 2020 was thousands of images of an unconscious Gisèle being raped by the men who were invited into her home by her husband.
Dominique Pelicot invited the men from an online chat room where they expressed their desire to rape women. The website has since been shut down.
The brave Gisèle waivered her right to a private trial, saying she wanted to shift the shame of rape to the men who raped her and hold them publicly responsible for what they subjected her to.
“I was sacrificed on the altar of vice. They regarded me like a rag doll, like a garbage bag.
I no longer have an identity. I don’t know if I’ll ever rebuild myself.
For me, everything collapses. These are scenes of barbarity, of rape.”
As the trial continues, chilling details about how Dominque crushed sleeping tablets and put them into his wife’s food and drinks came to light.
Dominique ordered the men not to smoke or use any cologne when they were meant to come over to rape his wife.
The 71-year-old father of 3 also expressly told the men not to use a condom.
The trial continues and is expected to conclude in December.
