A concerned listener recently contacted The Best T in the City to express his frustration. He was shocked to learn that his 55-year-old mom is dating a 38-year-old guy he used to play soccer with. He is seeking advice on how to handle this situation without being disrespectful.
“I recently found out that my mother and my childhood friend, from the same street ko kasi, are having an affair. This is the guy we used to play soccer on the streets with, we are not the best of friends, but it is the same guy we would be sent to the shops with. And now he is dating my mom.
“My mother is 55 and this guy is 38, 3 years older than me. I know they are both adults, but I am angry at them. I have not confronted them yet, because I am so embarrassed by this situation. What’s worse, it seems their relationship isn’t even a secret as the guy is seen leaving my
mother’s house now and then.“I am the only child, and we are close with my mom, but I have since distanced myself from her. I want to take leave and go home to spend two weeks there and I want to pretend like I know nothing. I just want to see if they’ll ever tell me about their affair. This is so infuriating. Either way how can I approach this?
One listener on Twitter advises Anonymous to stay away from the situation. “You’ve already distanced yourself, but because you’re so used to making decisions for your mother, you now want to take two weeks’ leave to reprimand an adult. Hold your horses before she’s the one who distances herself,” cautioned the listener.
Listen to The Best T in the City live to keep up with the conversation.
