It may not have been easy but the new Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton Mckenzie completed the 5km Mandela Day run.
Sharing the moment he crossed the finish line, Mckenzie admitted it was not “pap en vleis” (easy) to run the 5km race being as overweight as he is.
“Running a 5km race is not pap en vleis when you so overweight, I wanna thank the NelsonMandela Foundation for inviting me, this was great fun, runners are cool.”
To prepare for the race, the Minister ran every day in the lead up to the race which took place on Saturday, 20 July at the Wanderers Stadium.
The Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader whose party joined the Government of National Unity (GNU) says he vows to lose weight and fit the role as Minister of Sport.
After consulting his doctor, Mckenzie said he won’t be going for the marathon just yet and will start with the Mandela Day walk and run.
