Two kidnap victims at an informal settlement in Crystal Park, Benoni, were rescued on Monday afternoon thanks to the quick thinking and quick action of the elite Special Task Force unit of the South African Police Service (SAPS).
On Sunday, two men, ages 64 and 34, were abducted while traveling along Putfontein Road in Crystal Park. The authorities claim that the kidnappers demanded a payment from the victims’ relatives right away.
The crew ambushed the kidnappers on Monday afternoon, sparking a gunfight. Four kidnappers were apprehended and placed under police custody; one was shot and killed; one was injured and sent to the hospital.
“The SAPS assures communities that may become victims of this type of crime that it has the necessary expertise and capabilities to intercept and takedown syndicates involved in kidnappings where ransom demands are made,”

Two businessmen were rescued and six kidnappers were apprehended last week.
