Residents in the Roodepoort/Randburg areas are facing Day 8 without water after systems were competely shut off due to no water supply over the weekend.
With the 1-month maintenance programme well underway by Rand Water, frustrated residents were assured that there would be some water from their taps after Rand Water assured residents that water supply would not be completely shut off.
Last week, the Bergbron – Roodepoort area was hard hit by no water as Rand Water began flushing the Waterval 1 and 2 towers in order to begin working on the system.
While residents were informed this would be completed on Sunday, 30 June by Monday, 01 July taps were still dry and residents were growing impatient as higher lying areas had a normal water supply.
Rand Water said pumping to the Water and Quellerina Tower had to be stopped due to no water supply, with both towers at 1% capacity.
Pumping will only resume once the Waterval reservoir improves.
Meanwhile the Linden 1 tower has also been completely closed with the capacity level at 0%, while adjustments have been made to increase the supply from Northcliff Tower to minimise impact on customers.
Rand Water is hoping maintenance at Palmiet on Monday will increase supply to the Commando and Waterval Systems which will improve supply to Quellerina, Waterval Tower, Linden and Kensington B.
