DA’s Alan Winde has been re-elected as the Premier of the Western Cape.
At the inaugural sitting of the Western Cape legislature on Thursday, Alan Winde, a former premier of the DA, was re-elected, defeating Muhammad Khalid Sayed, the nominee of the ANC.
Under the direction of Patricia Goliath, acting judge president of the Western Cape High Court, voting was conducted in secret.
Sayed garnered 14 votes while Winde received 26, indicating that some of the minor parties supported both the DA and the ANC. Two ballots were found to be spoiled.
Point of View with Phemelo Motene spoke to Alan Winde following his re-election.

Winde expressed excitement to be re-elected.
“It’s an absolute honour to receive the majority vote in this house. It’s an honour to take this position into the next term. I’d like to acknowledge the people of this province.”
“We are still faced with massive challenges but with the help of my cabinet, the provincial government team and the residents of this great province, we can fulfil the pledges we have made to keep growing our economy, enabling more jobs, making our province energy secure and a dignified place where all residents have the opportunities and support that they need to thrive,”
Today, I was re-elected to lead the Western Cape Government (WCG) for another 5-year term at the first sitting of the 7th administration of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament.
