First sitting of the National Assembly to elect the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and President will be this Friday.
The South African parliament will sit for the first time on Friday, 14 June 2024 at 10h00 when the election of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and President will take place.
During the inaugural session of the new parliament, parliamentarians will swear an oath of allegiance to the Republic of South Africa and its Constitution at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC). According to the Constitution, the National Assembly’s first meeting must take place no later than 14 days following the announcement of the election results.
On Monday, Raymond Zondo, the Chief Justice of the Republic, declared and published the date of this meeting of the National Assembly.
