Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Zizi Kodwa appeared at the Palm Ridge Magistrates court on Wednesday morning, 05 June facing corruption charges.
Kodwa allegedly accepted R1.7 million in bribes from former EOH boss Jehan Mackay.
Mckay reportedly made cash payments to Kodwa to the amount of around R1.7 million between February 2014 and April 2015.
Kodwa is said to have benefitted from the illicit transactions which allegedly funded his luxury accommodation, loans and other gratuities.
The allegations against Kodwa was raised during the State Capture Commission, and in 2021 the Zondo Commission recommended that Kodwa be removed from Cabinet and charged for possible State Capture corruption.
Kodwa is accused of securing a more than R460 million contract for EOH Holdings in 2016 while he was ANC spokesperson and NEC member.
The company was hired to upgrade and maintain the City of Johannesburg’s software systems.
