At around 7 am on Friday, the IEC apologised for the issues with the public-facing NPE system. Though the public-facing system was down, local offices continued to capture results.
The IEC said it has experienced an interruption in the replication of data from its national data center and the various Results Operation Centres (ROCs).
Institute of Election Management Services (IEMSA)’s Terry Tselane reacted to the technical glitches, saying they can’t afford these errors as these could cause unnecessary suspicion.
“If there was a budget cut that was going to affect this process, it was relation one on voter eductions, the machines where there. In fact they increased their staff by 85 000. It shows that they have their resources. I wouldn’t attribute some of the weakness to the issues to the resources, the resources are there.”
