Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the alleged murders of two uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party members in Katlehong.
This after a reported dispute between members of the ruling African National Congress (ANC) and MK Party resulted in the fatal shooting claiming two lives.
Police confirmed that one victim died on the scene, while the other was declared dead whilst en-route to the hospital.
The victims were identified as Bongani Mkhwanazi and Xolani Nzimande.
The altercation took place in Thwala Section, Katlehong on Sunday, 26 May, days before South Africans are expected to take to voting stations to cast their votes in the 2024 National and Provincial elections.
Kaya News reporter, Pitso Molemane was on scene engaging with residents who shared that the political rivalry between the two parties intensified, causing tensions to brew in Katlehong.
Community members shared that the MK Party had grown in numbers, with some trusted ANC members joining the newly formed and rising MK Party, which was being led by former President Jacob Zuma.
Speaking to Pitso Molemane, former Finance Minister Des van Rooyen, who now backs the MK Party urged members of the party to remain calm and allow police to investigate the shooting.
All three suspects will be appearing at the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 28 May.
