Three suspects from a blue-light gang were killed in a shootout with police on Sunday night, 28 April.
The gang were allegedly posing as police officers on the N3 between Villiers and Heidelberg, and robbed motorists after stopping them.
A high speed chase with the suspects led to a shootout with police and three suspects were killed while one fled the scene on foot.
“A vehicle with blue lights was spotted on the N3, and the suspects sped away after seeing police.
A high speed chase toward Zonkizizwe in Ekurhuleni ensued.
The suspects started shooting at police and the team retaliated.
Three suspects were fatally shot and one suspect managed to flee the scene on foot.”
Police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili said two unlicensed firearms, ammunition and blue lights were seized.
Earlier in April, another blue-light gang was arrested in Johannesburg.
Two vehicles were seized after two men who were in possession of blue lights, police uniforms and firearms were arrested.
