South African singer/songwriter Lira recently celebrated her 45th birthday in style. To mark the occasion, she gathered her closest friends and family for an intimate dinner, where she surprised them with a mini-concert.
Lira has been working tirelessly to make a comeback to the stage after suffering a stroke over a year ago.
She shared, “I celebrated my birthday with an intimate party with my friends and family, and I surprised them with a mini concert! I felt safe enough to perform for them – they’ve been with me since I could not speak, and now I performed in English and vernacular – I nailed it!”
Reflecting on the moment, Lira admitted that she couldn’t help but shed tears of joy. She expressed, “I’ve come such a long way. I’m so proud of myself.”
Fans can look forward to seeing Lira perform live with a full band for the first time since her stroke in 2022 at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg on May 25th.
“This is a milestone for me and I’m absolutely thrilled. My recovery is nothing short of a miracle. At first it seemed like an insurmountable task to even be able to speak – but slowly, everyday I made progress – and now we are here,” expressed Lira.
