Two tragic incidents have gripped schools in Gauteng this week, the first being the unfortunate passing of a Jeppe High School for Boys learner, and the second involving a Hyde Park Secondary teacher who was found hanging at the school.
On Tuesday, 05 March the Grade 11 learner from Jeppe High School for Boys died after a rugby match with Hoërskool Die Anker in Brakpan.
It is alleged that the learner was not feeling well after the match. Paramedics on site tried to stabilize him and contacted an ambulance for further medical assistance.
Unfortunately, the learner succumbed shortly after the ambulance arrived.
Meanwhile, tragedy struck Hyde Park Secondary School on Wednesday, 06 March when a Grade 12 educator was found hanging.
The teacher was found hanging in the school’s sports field, and paramedics certified him dead on the scene.
Police are currently investigating the circumstances around the teacher’s death.
Gauteng MEC Matome Chiloane expressed his sadness at both incidents.
