Residents in Soweto, Roodepoort and Randburg have been hit with more excuses over the water outage which is now entering the 48-hour mark.
On Monday, 04 March many areas were still experiencing low water pressure, while some taps were dry altogether.
In a statement, JHB Water said City Power was conducting emergency repairs to a feedboard at the Eikenhof substation after one of the isolaters experienced a “flash-over.”
The flash-over occured at 20h00 on Monday night and affects the dedicated transformer supplying power to Rand Water Board pump station.
While the repairs were reportedly completed on Tuesday night, 05 March and residents in affected areas were informed that Rand Water was pumping at 100%, taps were still running dry on Wednesday, 06 March.
In latest updates from Rand Water, JHB south residents were since informed that it could take days for the system to fully recover.
“Dear Stakeholders and customers, please be informed that City Power has completed the maintenance of their feederboard that tripped the Rand Water Eikenhof system and affected pumping at Eikenhof.
Pumping has been resumed at Eikenhof.
However, the system may take a few days to fully recover. Water pumping is interrelated to electricity and electrical trips from Rand Water electricity suppliers impact our consistent pumping.”
JHB south residents are now forced to forced to locate water tankers in their area or make alternate arrangements for water.
