The 2021 local government elections are likely to see an increase in the number of voting stations.
The Municipal Demarcation Board says there will be 4 468 wards for the IEC to prepare for the upcoming municipal elections. The number of wards has increased by 76.
During the last elections in 2016, there were 4 392 municipal wards in the country.
Gauteng had 529 wards in 2016 and the number has not changed going to the 2021 elections.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has indicated that the 2021 local government elections will be held in October.
Municipal Demarcation Board Chief operations Officer Aluwani Ramagadza says the IEC will now have to adjust the number of wards ahead of the elections.
