The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has distanced itself from threats of a coup against President Cyril Ramaphosa, made by a former member.
Comments by Sylvester Mangolele have been slammed by SANDF with the “contempt it deserves”, and the Defence Department says his views are not reflective of nor represent SANDF in any way, shape or form.
In a video which has been widely circulated on social media, Mangolele summons the President to Gordons Bay to appear before the Commanding Officer (CO) of the SA Naval College.
Mangolele gave the President 48-hours to appear before before the CO citing several “charges” which he says Ramaphosa is guilty of.
In his video rant, Mangolele says he is the next befitting President of the country because Ramaphosa has failed in his responsibilities as Head of State.
“You, incumbent President Ramaphosa have failed to uphold, defend and respect that equality includes the equal and full enjoyment of all rights and freedoms in term of Section 92 of the Constitution.
And you understand it to be true very well that Section 237 of the Constitution imposes an obligation that all Constitutional obligations must be performed diligently and without delay.”

In response the SANDF has distanced itself from Mangolele’s comments and state that the former member was dismissed from the defence force in 2018.
“The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) distances itself from comments made by Sylvester Mangolele on social media.
Sylvester Mangolele was dismissed from the defence force in 2018 and does not speak on behalf of the SANDF.
The SANDF condemns Sylvester Mangolele’s utterances with the contempt it deserves. His comments are not reflective of nor represent the SANDF in any way shape or form.”
