After just one year of marriage, Anonymous has reached her breaking point. She feels it’s time to put an end to her relationship. The main issue? Her husband’s alcoholism has taken a significant toll on their marriage, particularly in terms of intimacy.
“I have been married for just over a year, and I’m already fed up with my husband. He has a serious drinking problem. Although he drinks at home, which I don’t mind, he gets so drunk that he passes out anywhere.
“We have no social life because of his drinking problem, and now I have started to entertain other men because I can see that I am wasting my time. We are no longer sleeping in the same bed, and we have even stopped doing the deed. I still love him dearly, but his drinking problem is too much for me. Should I leave him, or should I just punish him? I don’t know.”
One listener points out that Anonymous made vows to love her husband through thick and thin and suggests that she shouldn’t give up so easily.
“She made vows to be with her partner for better or for worse. She must speak to her husband when he is sober, and her husband must be open about his drinking. She must try to find out what’s driving the addiction before deciding to move on so abruptly. If need be, she must call a meeting with his elders.”
Another listener questions whether Anonymous was aware of her partner’s drinking issue before tying the knot. “In most instances, people get married thinking their problems will disappear. If she knew about this, then why did she insist on getting married? Her entertaining other men is not the solution because she still comes home to him. Maybe they should consider getting professional help.”
