It’s just a friendly compliment, right?
Wrong. Most women do not think it’s cool for their partners to compliment another woman in their presence. Men, on the other hand, don’t seem too phased by their partner’s complimenting other men.
The Kaya Drive team was split in their responses to Sizwe’s question, “How do you feel when your partner compliments other people?”
Some of the reasons women may not appreciate when their partners compliment another lady include:
- Your compliments give your partner mixed feelings
- Creates insecurities
- Jealousy
- You make a habit out of it
- You take it too far and point out physical features
Taking it a step further, Frontiers In Psychology research categorised the varying degrees of compliments, pitting them into physical appearance and non-physical appearance, which was divided into personality, temperament, mind, or other general descriptions.

According to the research, women rated the levels of compliments on a 7-point scale from appropriateness to arousal, romance, and overall attraction.
Basically, science suggests that women do not find you complimenting other women to be innocent.
Overall, findings suggest that men may use metaphorical language compliments targeting women’s appearance in a dating context to signal covertly their mate quality.
Another point of contention for women is when their partner’s like other women’s pictures on social media.

Which begs the question, ‘To like or not to like?” And the answer from women, according to the research is that it boils down to disrespect.
