The Memorial Service for late South African singer/songwriter Bulelwa “Zahara” Mkutukana will be held on Thursday, 14 December.
This will be to allow her family to transport her back home to the Eastern Cape this weekend where her funeral will take place.
Zahara’s Memorial Service will take place at the Rhema Bible Church in Randburg, Johannesburg between 11h00 and 14h00 on Thursday.
News of the 36-year old’s passing comes after her family confirmed she was hospitalized for a week, following physical pains and complications.
Zahara’s condition worsened last week when there were reports that she was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit.
The singer was battling a liver disease and succumbed to her condition on 11 December.
She is being remembered by her family and hometown as an icon who put the Eastern Cape on the global musical map.
Speaking to media outside the family’s home in the Eastern Cape, Zahara’s uncle, Nkosiyami Mkutukana said the family is struggling to come to terms with her death.
“We’re very sad to have lost a daughter, granddaughter, who was everything to us. Besides being someone who was popularly known, to us she was a family member, a humble person, an ordinary child to us.”
