A Sandton businessman has died after a reported orchestrated shooting outside his home on Thursday morning, 07 December.
Police have since arrested three suspects in connection with the shooting, one of whom was found in possession of a firearm which will be sent for ballistic testing.
A motive for the shooting is unclear at this stage, but it appears to be an apparent hit on the businessman who was pulling out of his driveway when the gunmen opened fire on his vehicle.
The shooting took place at Coleraine Drive in Morningside, Sandton and involved five gunmen.
Initial reports indicated that the businessman sustained several gunshot wounds and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
However, later on Thursday evening police confirmed that the businesman had succumbed to his extensive injuries.
Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said a team of detectives headed by the provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit has begun it’s investigation.
“On the evening of the same day, the team with the assistance of private security companies followed up on information which led to the three suspects who were found driving the same vehicle that was used during the shooting.
One of the suspects had a firearm which will be subjected to ballistic testing.”
