Rema’s hit track “Calm Down” has become the first song by an African artist to join Spotify’s Billions Club.
The Nigerian artist, was put on the map with the dance track that took the world by storm since it was released in August 2022.
Collaborating with US singer Selena Gomez on the remix of the track only heightened the track to global audiences.
But, this collaboration takes nothing away from Rema’s achievement, and he is one of the top 10 most-streamed Afrobeats artists on the platform.
Selena thanked Rema for changing her life forever and for choosing her to be part of one of the biggest songs in the world.
Calm Down received the most streams from the US, India, Mexico, Brazil and the UK, proving that the track transcends borders.
The dance track was also added to more than a million Spotify playlists.
Rema said he was really happy that his song was received with so much love, and that people had enjoyed the song across the world.
“It’s a blessing. It’s not just a big win for me, my team, and my family; it’s also a big one for the culture. I feel really happy, and I’m really proud of the fans as well for going back to the song and putting people onto the song.
