President of the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL), Collen Malatji is demanding an R4 500 graduate grant from government.
In addition, the ANCYL is also calling on government to increase the R350 social relief grant to R1 500 until the issues around unemployment in the country is resolved.
Speaking at the ANCYL’s 79th Anniversary at Ga Morwe Kameelrivier Stadium in Dr. JS Moroka Municipality, Mpumalanga over the weekend, Malatji called for competent officials and clean governance in all spheres of government.
“We are saying while young people are looking for opportunities, there must be a grant that is provided for them to be able to move around to look for those opportunities.
We are saying while we are still looking for solutions, the R350 social relief grant must be increased to R1 500, until all of those issues are resolved.
Unemployed graduates must be paid R4 500 a month. The youth looking for other opportunities must be paid R1 500 a month, until the matter of unemployment is resolved.”

Malatji’s demands come amid government’s struggle to keep up with the R350 social relief grants due to mounting debt within the ANC.
More than 18 million people get a social grant, additionally, 10 million people benefit from the R350 social relief grant.
