India becomes the 4th country in the world to land on the moon.
On Wednesday India successfully touched down a spacecraft close to the south pole of the moon, an unexplored region thought by scientists to have important quantities of frozen water and other materials.
On July 14, Chandrayaan-3, which means “moon craft”, launched from a launch site in Sriharikota, a city in southern India.
The successful landing has been hailed by many around the world.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is in South Africa for the 15th BRICs Summit watched the historic landing from the Sandton Convention Centre.
“India is now on the moon. India has reached the south pole of the moon — no other country has achieved that. We are witnessing history,” said Modi as he waved the Indian flag
