Xolile Tshabalala laments the high cost of groceries, sharing her shock at how quickly the prices of food items increase.
In a video, the Blood & Water actress talks about how, what used to be the cheapest chocolate from her childhood, a Chomp bar, is now at a whopping R7.
Xolile says the chocolate which was at some point sold for just R1 back in the day, was two months ago R5.
Questioning how something that used to be so cheap has increased by R2 so quickly, the actress said it’s clear the world is turning.
“How? How, are we surviving when it’s so rough? Have you seen the prices in the shops lately? Let me give you an example, and don’t judge me because I know it’s artificial chocolate, but a Chomp, a Chomp that used to cost R5 two months ago, is now R7.
For me a Chomp was a comfort thing, and it’s something I always buy. Let’s not even talk about the price of oil.”
Xolile Tshabalala says she was shocked to see the price of olive oil has shot up to R300 a bottle.
The actress’ comments section echoed her exact concerns, with all her followers saying they are stressed because of the cost of groceries.
One of Xolile’s fans said leaving the grocery store always leaves him feeling depressed, because if people who are working find groceries too expensive, then imagine how the unemployed must feel.
Some say they’ve cut back on “luxury” items and stopped buying “name brand” products, looking for the cheapest brand for all food items.
Others say they can’t even stick to a budget for food anymore because not even R2 000 is enough to feed a family of 4 for the month anymore.
