The World Health Organization announces new COVID-19 variant EG.5.
The EG.5 coronavirus strain that is circulating in China and the United States was labeled a “variant of interest” by the World Health Organization on Wednesday,
The World Health Organization has said that it did not appear to pose a greater threat to public health than other variants.
The also added that the fast-spreading version, which accounts for an estimated more than 17% of infections in the US, has been linked to an increase in the virus not only in that nation but also in China, South Korea, Japan, and Canada, among other nations.
