South Africans can expect Stages 4 to 6 loadshedding until the end of the year, according to Energy Council of SA CEO, James Mackay.
Mackay says while the country fluctuates between the highest stages of loadshedding this winter, things are looking up for Eskom, and the rolling blackouts are on their way out.
Speaking to Cape Talk, Mackay said the Presidential Energy Action Plan and partnership between government and business is showing improvement, and the plan is working.
“That’s where I get my confidence from, there’s a real structural shift in the way we are working and the way we are making decisions, the transparency and capacity that is being put on the ground.
We are in the best position we’ve ever been in since the start of loadshedding.
Eskom has been neglected and beaten, and we do need to support them to do what they do. There are really good people and good skills still there.”

According to Mackay, the Presidential plan is critical for a positive structural shift at Eskom, and he is confident loadshedding will be a thing of the past by the end of the year.
“We really need to start getting our heads around it, there are technical plans, it’s not a sort of a black hole that’s just going to go on forever.
Stages 4 to 6 we need about 5,000 megawatts to plug our energy deficit. We can identify about 8,000 to 9,000MW that can come on stream in the next 18-24 months. So we know we’ve got a good plan, we have got to push hard we have got to work at it.”
