On Sunday, 02 July, Banyana Banyana players refused to play in their friendly match against Botswana at the Tsakane Stadium.
This comes just days before Banyana Banyana departs for the 2023 FIFA World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
It is reported that the players were not happy with the match venue. They feel that the quality of the 5000-capacity stadium was below-par for a World Cup preparation match.
In addition, a report from the Sunday Times quoting sources, states that the players are also demanding a million each for participating in their three World Cup group G matches.
Kaya 959 understands that Banyana Banyana would not be getting any compensation from SAFA outside of the R562k from FIFA hence the contention from the players.
Head coach, Desire Ellis was forced to call upon a second-choice side for the game against Botswana as her players refused to come onto the field.
Sports minister Zizi Kodwa is set to meet with the South African Football Players Union (Safpu) following the downing of tools from Banyana Banyana.
