The family of an Ecuadorian woman were left mourning her death twice, after Belle Montoya “rose from the dead” at her funeral, only to die again a few days later.
In a video shared by Al Jazeera, 76-year Bella Montoya was incorrectly pronounced dead by a hospital in Quito, Ecuador.
Montoya’s distraught family were given the sad news of her passing by doctors, and began making funeral arrangements.
Little did the Montoya family know that their beloved mother would wake up alive in her coffin, gasping for air.
During her funeral service, family members were startled when they heard banging coming from inside Montoya’s coffin.
The “dead” woman spent almost 5-hours inside her coffin, and was gasping for air when the coffin lid was opened.
Montoya was immediately rushed back to the same hospital that declared her dead, baffling doctors who began investigating her curious health condition.
After spending a week in the ICU, Montoya then really died from what doctors call an ischemic stroke.
The first time Montoya “died” she had actually suffered from a condition called catalepsy.
This is when an individual experiences a seizure which can cause loss of consciousness and leaves the body stiff and rigid, almost corpse-like.
