Derek Watts will be stepping back from his work on Carte Blanche to focus on his health.
The South African television icon was diagnosed with skin cancer last year, which has now spread to his lungs. Watts who continued to work despite his diagnosis, with the support of his family and specialists, has not chosen to focus on his health.
The optimistic personality shared a message with fans of the cutting edge talk show, thanking viewers for their support and prayers, and promising that he will return to screens soon.
“Thank you for all the love, the messages, the prayers that give us all hope. And thanks, of course, for continuing to watch Carte Blanche. I’ll be back soon.”

Derek Watts was earlier this year hospitalised when he developed sepsis and needed to learn how to walk again.
Carte Blanche Executive Producer, John Webb said, Wats touched many lives throughout his remarkable career.
“Following his cancer diagnosis, I know his resolve will be strengthened by the continued love and support of the people to whom he dedicated his working life.
We join all of you in wishing strength and recovery to our patriarch, mentor, colleague and friend.”
Watts remains confident that the expertise and dedication of his medical team will provide the best possible care and support throughout this process.
The Carte Blanche presenter had been a part of the show since inception in 1988 and Derek Watts became one of the most respected and recognized investigative journalists.
