The Carter’s made the biggest house purchase in the history of Califorina when they spent R3.8 billion rand on their new home.
R3.8 billion rand equates to a cool $200 million in America and is chump change for the billionaire power couple.
What makes this story even more extravagant is that the couple saved $95 million on the purchase. That is just over R1.8 billion.
The cost of the mansion can be linked to the names attached to it. The architect who designed the property is Tadao Ando. Ando is also the architect of Kanye West’s mansion which cost a humble $57.3 million dollars in comparison to the Malibu home now owned by the Carter’s.
Ando is a Japanese architect who is known for his style which is described as having a “haiku” effect. In a nutshell that means that his design emphasizes nothingness and empty space to represent the beauty of simplicity.
The architect’s simplistic design spans over 30,000 square feet. That’s a lot of space to represent empty space that the Carter’s can admire.
Jay-Z and Beyonce are the second owners of the home. The previous owner is reportedly an art collector by the name of William Bell who lived in it for 15 years.
As much as this is a massive talking point for one of the most famous couples in the hip-hop industry and the world, the Malibu house is not the most expensive to be sold in America. The Malibu mansion is the second most expensive house to be sold in America. The most expensive home was an apartment sold in New York City for just over R4.5 billion.
Not everyone received the news of the latest investment as well as the Carter’s have.
Some called it a waste of money:
