Nkosinathi Kumalo, firstborn son to former Miss South Africa Basetsana and businessman Romeo Kumalo turns 18 years old today.
Basetsana penned Nkosinathi a heartfelt message on social media. She notes that being a mother to him has “changed” her life forever.
“I didn’t know I could love so deeply and intensely. My boy, you gifted me with the gift of your life. We prayed for you and Papa in the delivery room, cried when he saw you for the first time and when he cut your umbilical cord,” expressed Basi.
“You’ve been a joy to raise, kind, compassionate, present, conscientious, giving, honourable, steadfast, hard-working, respectful, smart and more importantly you are a decent human being and I am proud to say “that’s my son.”
Nkosinathi is currently in Grade 12. “Being in Matric now is a tough year, it requires all of your focus, resoluteness, commitment, courage, dedication, and that you make the right decisions for yourself, not for anybody else but for yourself. I know you have innate greatness in you, even in your shy moments, you still show up and do your best, and your best is good enough,” added Basi in part.
“Keep winning, and keep shining even when the going gets tough. Don’t let the world define and dictate who you are and your destiny. You already are imbued with the essence of that truth of who you are. You are one amazing young man.”
Basetsana and Romeo Kumalo started dating in 1997 and married in 2000. The pair has three children together.
