
Hugh Masekela has been inducted into Ertegun Hall of Fame in US.
South African Tourism was part of the celebration honoring the iconic jazz artist at Dizzy’s Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center in partnership with the Hugh Masekela Heritage Foundation.
Bra Hugh Masekela was a world-renowned flugelhornist, trumpeter, bandleader, composer, singer and defiant political voice whose music transcendent barriers with invocative messages.
Masekela’s music served as a representation of South African culture, and carried with the nation’s rich legacy and diversity.
His induction sees him joining the illustrious list of fellow jazz musician inductees such as Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, John Coltrane, Miles Davis and Nina Simone.
Masekela received recognition for his contributions to jazz music and his influence on South Africa’s cultural advancement.
