Pumela Salela is the Country Head for the United Kingdom (UK) under Brand South Africa, the custodian of the South African country brand.
Her role is to market South Africa in the UK, attract foreign direct investment (fdi) into South Africa, mobilize Global South Africans (GSA) abroad and manage the brand reputation of South Africa.
She recently joined Kaya Midday Joy with Unathi as part of our continued celebration of International Woman’s Month, a focus on amazing women doing great things.

Managing South Africa’s reputation abroad
In a wide-ranging conversation that looks at everything from the professional to the personal, she spoke about what she does in her current role in management for the country abroad.
“Being pro-active and managing and promoting South African as a country, what we do is developing and implementing co-ordinated marketing opportunities that seek to manage the reputation of South Africa.” She says
Passion for the African Continent
Salela spoke about how, in any shape or form, she’s always wanted to position Africa as a force to be reckoned with in the world.
“I have travelled to about 37 African countries, and my goal is to travel to all of them. Africa is at the centre of my dreams and I know it is going to be possible for me to do this. I am someone who’s very patriotic and love playing a role in showcasing Africa as a continent is equally capable in the global space.”
