“Mfundi Vundla should stop disrespecting ubhut Menzi Ngubane after he fired him & the rest of the real Generations crew.”
That is how one Twitter user reacted to Mfundi Vundla’s tribute to the late Menzi Ngubane.
The 56-year-old actor died on Saturday after suffering a stroke.
During an interview with TshisaLIVE, Mfundi described Menzi as “one of SA’s most talented actors”.
“He was a very talented and brilliant actor. Off screen, he was a good guy. It is very sad. His death is a loss to his family and also to audiences. It leaves the whole of SA poorer,” the ‘Generations’ founder said.
Menzi played the role of Sibusiso Dlomo on the popular soapie for more than 10 years.

Backlash over ‘Generations 16’ firing
But Mfundi’s tribute was met with anger. Many social media users reminded him about the time he fired 16 ‘Generations’ cast members, including Menzi.
The actors made headlines in 2014 after boycotting the show due to several issues including royalty payments and contracts.
Mfundi described the ‘Generations 16’ boycott as “stupid” in a 2018 interview.
He went on to reboot the soapie, renaming it ‘Generations: The Legacy’.
Social media reaction
Social media users shared clips of Menzi talking about his experience on ‘Generations’.
“Mfundi Vundla suddenly acting like he cares about the death of Menzi Ngubane. A man spent 7 weeks in hospital, fighting for his life… and all he was given just a weekend at home to rest, then go back to work,” one Twitter user wrote.

Another Twitter user added: “Mfundi Vundla. They are like those cousins that never visit grandparents when they are still alive but cry the loudest @ their funerals. Sithule nje siyabuka.”

But some Twitter users defended Mfundi.
